How Many Baguettes Does One Island Need?

We were walking on our way to our tour of the Abbey of St. Michel on Mont St. Michel, before any of the shops had opened and I caught the baguette delivery. That's so much bread! And it all gets eaten, every day, in tons of shops on the island. I suppose it makes sense considering the 4,000,000 visitors the abbey gets every year! Apart from tourists, the island only has 12 permanent, year round residents, most of whom are part of the monastic community.
I ran into Ellen Howes on our tour too! She is part of the UMass program in eastern France, and we sat together for our whole trip in August. What are the chances?!? P.S. that's not her - there was a boyscout tour going on and I could NOT get over their walking sticks - Mont Saint Michel is definitely full of narrow ramps and staircases, but the sticks were hilarious. I've gotta go finish some homework for tomorrow - we have a mystery meeting before class so no time to waste!
Bye for now!
bisous
Emily
