Doorbusting the Taj Mahal

Today our group finally made it to the famous Taj Mahal of Agra, India!! After a 5am wakeup time, we made our way over to the Taj before the sun was even up. We bought our tickets and waited in line in the dark. Once we were admitted, we could see the morning fog surrounding the HUGE building (seriously so much larger than anything I've experienced or imagined). Once the sun popped up over the horizon and the mosque to the tomb's east, the whole white marble building reflected the orange October sun and it was gorgeous. I had been skeptical of the Taj, and wondered if it was a bit overrated by the tourism industry, but being in the nearly-empty (give or take a few hundred tourists..in the low traffic time of day) garden and walking through the Taj alone was truly one of the most amazing things I've ever done. Watching the 6:11 sun hit the Yamuna River just behind the tomb was icing on the cake and our silly tourist pictures were enough fun to keep us from falling asleep after the initial excitement! Checking a "Wonder of the World" off my list was great, but proving the Taj's worth to myself was even better! I LOVED it.
