Maine Warm-up Dive

Last week I went on a lovely dive in Portland, Maine. I got a chance to try out my dive equipment and appreciate how lucky I am going to be next semester in the warm waters of Bermuda. Fortunately it was a hot day for Maine and I had 5mm of wetsuit to allow for two dives. There was an abundance of kelp, starfish, and lobster all along the rocky coastline. It was a perfect way to transition from my summer in New England to the semester ahead.

The second dive location -- In front of Portland Head Light

I will be spending the next three months doing research under Dr. Samantha de Putron on her coral research: “The effect of light and feeding on juvenile coral growth” at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences. Throughout this time, I will also take a research diving methods course, write and present a formal research paper, and explore the beautiful island of Bermuda!
