Day Trippers

No class on Wednesdays! So after a Tuesday of classes that lasted from 9 to 5:15 Emma and I decided to take of to the port of Dieppe on the channel to get away from the city for a day. We were planning on hiking, as the GR21, one of many hiking trails in France, goes straight through the city, but there was a kite festival on the beach, so, naturally we had to stay and appreciate the international kite-flying skills! Who knew there was and American Kite Association?! Anyways, the beaches of Dieppe are BEAUTIFUL - all rocks, but smooth and clean, without any garbage or nasty dirt mixed in with the sand.
Emma and I are so excited to have found this new spot to take a break from the rush of Rouen!

You could see the kites from the train station - the walk to the beach was right past the docks, which were full of beautiful sailboats, fishing boats, and yachts.
The Canadian armed forces were part of the Operation Jubilee landing to liberate France from Nazi Germany in WWII, so there are Canadian flags and monuments everywhere marking the date.

You can head out onto the boardwalk right from the beach! There were TONS of people fishing and the France-UK ferry was moored, ready to head back to England!
Emma and I have also noticed how stylish all of the kids in France are - we could never pull off jeans and a denim jacket! We also made a friend with Ghosty - all of the rocks were split really interestingly and this one was full of crystals! - so, of course, he got to eat lunch with us on the beach.
